OTTERY FOREST FIT
Movement in Nature.
I believe we need to remember our evolutionary biology and add movement in nature back into our modern lives. We know we can help our health with exercise. It improves blood pressure, immunity and cardiovascular function. It strengthens muscles, reduces inflammation and helps regulate hormones. It reduces our risks of chronic disease.
Natural light is also critical for our well being. It has positive effects on our body clock, sleep quality and vitamin D levels. Spending time in green space improves our mood and reduces stress and anxiety levels.
Exercising in nature therefore offers so much more than the standard workout.
A Bit About Me
I am a former marine biologist who loved nothing more than being on a wind swept beach collecting specimens. After moving my scientific interests into genetics, and spending 14 years in Sydney, Australia, my family and I set up home in beautiful Devon. With such awe-inspiring nature on our doorstep, a passion for lifestyle health and a love of exercising outdoors, I decided to do my Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training and start Ottery Forest Fit.
I run exercise sessions among the trees and surrounding areas of Ottery St Mary. These include small group circuit, interval and trail running sessions which focus on strength, cardio and core. Classes are suitable for all levels. I also offer personal training which targets your specific needs.
I am a member of the Chartered Institute for Management of Sport and Physical Activity. I use my 30 year background in science to write about and promote the benefits of healthy lifestyles. I am also a graduate of The Nutrition Academy, Australia (International Accreditation and Recognition Council accredited) and can work with you to help you achieve you weight goals.
I look forward to helping you move more and take control of your health.
What I Do
I am offering outdoor classes for a maximum of 5 at the moment. I also do 1:1 outdoor sessions and fitness via Zoom.
If you are interested in any classes and/or would like more information, please contact me via email or the form below.
Zoom classes will start again on the 2nd November and run for 7 weeks.
Mondays 7-7:45 am: High intensity interval training. £20 for the term.
You'll need a mat and water. Most exercises will use body weight but sometimes we'll also use common items you have at home.
If you are interested in online 1:1, please get in touch.
Fitness is about function both physically and mentally. When you exercise with others you share the experience and have fun. Add in nature and your body and mind will find the right balance. If you are a group with a specific challenge in mind, please get in touch.
Classes run weekly in line with the school term, which starts on the 2nd November and runs for 7 weeks. Sessions are either 45 minutes (£30 for the term) or 1 hour (£35 for the term).
